HISTORY OF GAMMA CHI CHAPTER
Johnnie Robinson was the founding member of the Gamma Chi Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated®. and remained active up until called home to be with the Lord October 23, 2014. She was a public health nurse here in Atlanta and moved to Durham, NC to obtain her certification. She joined Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated® at North Carolina Central. Her eagerness to see nurses working together to implement the goals and purposes of the sorority motivated her. Johnnie Robinson returned to Georgia in 1960. On Saturday, July 21, 1962, Gamma Chi Chapter was chartered at Armstrong Hall of Grady Memorial Hospital as a result of her leadership. Gamma Chi Chapter has the distinction of being the chapter with the largest number of (40) members ever chartered in the history of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated®.
On July 21, 2012, Gamma Chi Chapter celebrated 50 years of service joined by our charter members. Gamma Chi Chapter is the first chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated® in Georgia. Gamma Chi Chapter’s mission is inherited in the organization’s motto “Service for Humanity.” We have enjoyed and enriched our lives with more than 50 years of service for humanity throughout Metropolitan Atlanta by promoting health and education – providing leadership development and scholarships to nurses and nursing students and by networking and partnering with other organizations with similar goals.
